Fire incidents in Jakarta during the year 2015 reached 1582 cases, with 22 people dead and material losses of around IDR 377 billion Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). To minimize the risk of fire hazards in office buildings, buildings must be equipped with a reliable fire response system. This study evaluated the reliability of the building safety system against fire hazards in the X government office building in Jakarta. This is a descriptive study that evaluates fire safety systems based on DKI Jakarta Province Local Regulations, Ministry of Public Works Regulations and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) requirements. There are four system reliability parameters in building fire safety. The first one is the completeness of site resources where the building is located/build, that is, water sources, road environment, road between buildings, and hydrant yard. The second one is means of rescue completeness, that is, exit doors, exit construction, and helicopter pad. The third one is completeness of active protection system, that is, alarm detection, light fire extinguisher, sprinkler, etc. The last one is completeness of passive protection system, that is, fire-resistance building structure, compartmentalization of space, and protection of openings. The study undertook a literature review, field observation and in-depth interviews. The X government office building considered in this study consists of 15 floors and 2 basement floors with a square area of 34,948 m2 . The results of the study indicated the reliability value of the building safety system against fire hazards in the X government office building rate was sufficient, which is to say that it was 67.75 percent in compliance with standards. Parameters considered were completeness of site (82.5%), means of rescue (72.7%), passive protection (58.0%), and active protection (57.4%). The low value of the active protection parameter was caused by the functional failure of smoke detectors, fire alarms, sprinklers, and building hydrants. For the passive protection parameter, there were several improvements in shaft protection and dividing room compartments that need to be made to complywith the standard. Work is required to meet the needs of life and create prosperity, but it can impact the worker’s health and safety. The risk factors of work are derived from the work process, the materials and tools involved, and the workplace; however, workers themselves can also be a source of harm if their health condition is not fit towork, and/or if they perform unsafe acts while working. One important factor that determines workers’ health is their lifestyle, both in daily life and at the workplace. This article aims to share information about the Workplace Health Promotion program stage cycle development model. This model has evolved following the development of our knowledge derived from a literature review of both books and journals, an analysis of current issues, and our research involving students, as well as collaboration among campuses, faculty, companies, and other stakeholders in community social responsibility programs. This model consists of eight stages from which the name of RAPKPIEK is derived: recognition of health hazard and risk; analysis of needs;program planning; communication; preparation; implementation; evaluation; and continuity. The original program has been enhanced with three added initiatives: ethics and value, leadership engagement and worker participation, and the assembly and mobilization of human resources and infrastructure. Our research and our field experiences found that the RAPKPIEK model successfully improved several health indicators and established a healthy lifestyle in many workplaces. This model can be used as a guide for the development of interventions and form the basis of evaluation in workplace health promotion programs. However, it is suggested that the RAPKPIEK-plus concept of advancement needs to be further investigated for its effectiveness in order to promote better and more sustainable health behaviour in the workplace. Road hauling accidents involving hauling trucks are the highest contributor to coal mine accidents in Indonesia. More than 20 percent of accidents related to coal mining occur on hauling roads. PT X is an open-pit coal mining company that transports coal for processing using hauling trucks. At this company, coal hauling truck accidents also result in the highest number of fatal incidents. During the 2010–2015 period, 11 fatal accidents were reported, and hauling trucks were involved in 45 percent of the accidents. These fatal accidents resulted in the operators’ deaths and also caused financial losses because of the subsequent needs to repair equipment and to disrupt production processes. The purpose of the present study was to identify the causes offatal accidents involving coal hauling trucks at PT X during the 2010–2015 period. The research process consisted of five steps, including a (1) literature review, (2) a review of accident investigation reports, (3) field observations, (4) focus group discussions (FGDs) and (5) interviews with top management representatives. The results of the data analysis showed that two main factors cause fatal accidents involving coal hauling trucks: operator fatigue and the use of mobile phones while driving. Operator fatigue contributed to 60 percent of accidents, while the use of mobile phones while driving contributed to 40 percent of accidents. The results of the FGDs indicated that fatigue among the operators of hauling trucks was caused by poor shift management.Meanwhile, the use of mobile phones while driving was related to the monotony of work, the lack of an open radio channel and personal reasons. To reduce fatal accidents involving coal hauling trucks, we suggest to the management of PT X that the work shifts of operators be appropriately managed. A rotating shifts scheduleshould be implemented, and rest periods should be encouraged during shifts to avoid operator fatigue and decreased operator alertness during day shifts. Finally, we suggest the implementation of further regulations to prohibit the use of mobile phones while driving. Keywords: coal hauling trucks, fatality, fatigue, accident caus

Currently, small to medium enterprises (SMEs) are of major government concern in improving occupational health and safety (OHS) due to their low implementation. However, a lack of attention has been paid to the problems of OHS in SMEs. Even if the current OHS laws cover SME workers, there is still a lack of implementation. Observance of regulation, monitoring, and protection of employees is needed to implement optimal workplace safety and health. One of the important factors that influence the observance of safety regulation is the safety climate. The safety climate plays an important role in the safety culture and is mirrored through the attitude expressed in the worker’s OHS behavior. This survey describes the government’sefforts to provide workplace health promotion and its relation to the occupational safety climate of Batik SMEs in the Pekalongan Regency. This research uses a descriptive design intended to develop the workplace safety climate of Batik workers after receiving health promotion in the workplace. The instrument used was theNordic Safety Climate Questionnaire. The result showed that after health promotion was conducted, the average health indices were sufficient. Of all seven dimensions, only the fifth dimension, workers’ safety priority and risk non-acceptance, had consistent low scores. This showed that workplace health promotion enhanced the profile of the safety climate. The study concluded that new breakthrough efforts to conduct workplace health promotion were still needed in order to improve OHS implementation in the Batik SMEs, and an innovative approach is needed to get the attention of SME workers. Workers in chemical industries, especially those who operate suspending agent workstations, face a risk of potentially developing musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). This is because their work is often performed at high altitude or in dusty areas, and it frequently requires an awkward body posture because physical space may belimited. In order to reduce the risk of MSDs, researchers performed an ergonomic assessment using the RULA/REBA method directly at a workstation in a suspending agent area. Simulations were run using CATIA software to evaluate the designs of a conveyor, a jack-adjustable table, and the overall work method. This statistical study proved that work systems can be improved through the addition of specific tools, and that a worker’s posture can be improved through the application of ergonomic principles. Software simulation provided a comprehensive solution for work-system development. Keywords: ergonomic intervention, works posture, assessment, MSDs, RULA, REB

The majority of female batik workers uses non-ergonomic chairs (dingklik) that pose risks of musculoskeletal disorders. This study aimed to design an ergonomic chair and evaluate its effectiveness in reducing musculoskeletal disorders among the workers. This is a quasi-experimental study (using one group pre and post-test design) on 50 female batik workers selected by quota sampling. Musculoskeletal disorders were measured among the samples before and after the use of the designed ergonomic chair which they were asked to use for two months. T-test, ANCOVA, Wilcoxon test, McNemar test and Chi Square test were used for the analysis. The study found statistical significant differences of risk factor against musculoskeletal disorders among the workers before and after their use of the designed ergonomic chair (p=0.000); and of musculoskeletal disorders before and after using the ergonomic chair (p= 0,035). Body Mass Index (BMI) was identified as a confounding factor, and statistical significant difference of musculoskeletal disorders were also found among the workers with <25 and >25 BMI even before and after using the ergonomic chair (p=0.033 and p=0.015 respectively). By ANCOVA statistical test, after controlling BMI, another statistical difference of musculoskeletal disorders was also identified before and after using the ergonomic chair (p=0.033). It is concluded that the designed ergonomic chair is effective to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders
